Recharge

Branding

Recharge is a non-existent restaurant that was inspired by my visit to Toronto, Canada where businesses shared spaces. I saw many coffee shops - bike shops shared spaces. After telling my mom about my desire to create a restaurant using Toronto’s business style she told me why not have an electric car charging station with a cafe, later changing it to a diner. As a new Tesla owner, she came up with the idea of a charging station. I decided to locate my diner in a remote part of California. It can be hard to find charging stations on highways where they are most needed but there are fewer people. I chose California as my location for the simple reason that it leads other states in the use of electric vehicles.

My target audience is EV drivers looking to find a place to eat or do some work while waiting for their car to charge.  For drivers of gas-powered cars stopping for a place to eat,  Recharge will charge their bodies with good food and, hopefully, inspire those customers to think differently about electric cars. When it comes to my design choices, I selected futuristic-looking typefaces and colors with a simple yet playful logo. Since Recharge puts great importance on slowing climate change, all of the packaging is compostable and the restaurant has zero waste. Recharge was one of the first big projects that made me feel like I could be a good designer who uses his skills to help make a positive impact in the world.

This project comes with a 2.5 x 2.5-inch sticker, a menu 10 x 8 inches folded up, a mug, 3 x 5-inch business cards, and a Spotify playlist. This project was featured in the All School Show at Mass Art in April of 2023 and was originally completed in December of 2021.
